Description
This Kato EMD SD70MAC diesel is based on the 4,300-horsepower road diesel locomotives used mostly in freight service from coast to coast. Features include a five-pole motor with dual flywheels, all-wheel electrical pickup, heavy die cast metal chassis, a lighting control board that can be swapped for a DCC decoder when you’re ready (available separately), fine decoration, directional LED headlights and Kato magnetic knuckle couplers.
The 4,000-horsepower SD70MAC can be found heading up heavy freights from coast to coast. Burlington Northern bought many of these and assigned them to heavy coal trains in Wyoming. Found all over the middle of the U.S., they also run through to eastern power plants over connecting railroads, so they’ll also look at home on eastern-themed layouts. Like all Kato locomotives, they feature highly detailed bodies, great painting and lettering, smooth-running mechanisms and knuckle couplers. This model wears the classy green-and-cream “Executive Scheme.”
